Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of the timed up and go test as a predictive tool for fall risk in persons with stroke
Seung-yeop Lim, Byung-jun Lee, Wan-hee Lee 물리치료재활과학회 Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 7 Pages
물리치료재활과학회 Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 2018, 제 7권 제 2호 2 54-60 (7 pages)
Objective: Persons with chronic stroke fall more often than healthy elderly individuals. The Timed Up and Go test (TUG) is used as a fall prediction tool, but only provides a result for the total measurement time. This study aimed to determine the optimal cut-off values for each of the 6 components of the TUG. Design: Retrospective study. Methods: Thirty persons with chronic stroke participated in the study. TUG evaluation was performed using a wearable miniaturized inertial sensor. Sensitivity,... -
Analysis of Opportunity Costs Based on Survey for Pharmacy Education Eligibility Test
Bang Jae-beom, Han Na-young, Oh Jung-mi, Chung Kyu-hyuck, Oh Hee-jin, Kwon Hyuk-ki, Kim Byoung-joo 한국교육학회 교육학연구 19 Pages
한국교육학회 교육학연구 2022, 60권 3호 5 93-111 (19 pages)
The Pharmacy Education Eligibility Test (PEET) is required by most pharmacy schools for ascertaining students aptitude and skills. The aim of this study was to assess the opportunity costs for the PEET preparation based on self-report survey. The questionnaire was developed and finally verified by experts in pharmacy and education. Opportunity costs were analyzed by summing the measurement of time, as indirect costs, and direct costs required to prepare the exam. A total of 392 students from 9... -

with three different partners. The partners' proficiency levels were higher, the same as, or lower than their own. The results showed an increase in test scores, as the proficiency level of the partners is higher. Furthermore, a statistically significant differences were found in the test scores of test takers. In light of such effects, these findings indicate that the validity of paired speaking test needs to be reconsidered its use and to find a better way to utilize it in a larger context. -
Comparison of spatio-temporal gait parameters according to shoe types in chronic stroke survivors

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of wearing various types of shoes on gait ability in stroke survivors and in order to gain information in regards to shoes that could possibly replace ankle orthosis. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Eight hemiplegic survivors diagnosed with stroke participated in the study. Gait was analyzed using the GAITRite Electronic Walkway (CIR System Inc., USA) when subjects walked with no showed, walked with non-ankle-covered... -
Awareness and satisfaction of therapeutic goals on functional status in persons with hemiparetic stroke
Si-Nae Ahn, Jeong-Weon Lee, Su-jin Hwang 물리치료재활과학회 Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 5 Pages

evaluate patients’ functional status. This study measured functional status through three clinical measures including the manual function test (MFT), Berg Balance scale (BBS), and modified Barthel index (MBI). Results: In participants with hemiparetic stroke, the MBI, BBS, and MFT scores were significantly higher in the participants who were aware of the therapeutic goal than in those who were unaware (p<0.05). The MBI, BBS, and MFT scores were not significant between the participants who were... -
Effects of sit-to-stand imagery group training on balance performance in individuals with chronic hemiparetic stroke

in a regular rehabilitation program. STS movement and balance performance were assessed using three clinical measures. Results: After training, time to perform the 5-repetition STS test significantly increased in the STS-IGT group (change value, 4.0±2.0 sec) compared with the control group (change value, 0.9±0.7 sec) (p<0.05). There was a greater improvement in Berg balance scale scores in the STS-IGT group (change value, 0.2±4.1 points) compared with the control group (change value, 0.3±0.9... -
Predictive validity of the gait scale in the Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment for stroke survivors

the POMA-GS, and physical functions were examined using by the One Leg Stand Test (OLST), Sit to Stand Test (SST), 10-m Walk Test, Lower Extremity in Fugl-Meyer assessment (FM-LE), and Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS). The validity of POMA-GS for falls prediction was analyzed. Results: In the POMA-GS, which predicts falls in stroke survivors, the cut-off value was 8.5 (sensitivity 72%; specificity 65%) and the area under the curve was 0.75 (95% confidence interval: 0.60-0.90, p<0.007). There was a... -

and 28 able-bodied healthy individuals participated in the study. The bone strength of the distal radius was assessed using the Sunlight Mini-Omni Ultrasound Bone Sonometer; sitting balance was quantified using the modified functional reach test (with reference to a scale marked on the wall); and the self-administered Rosenberg self-esteem (RSE) scale was used to measure the global self-esteem of the participants. The velocity of the ultrasound wave (speed of sound, m/s) traveling through the... -

investigate the relationship between the UPDRS-motor exam, Box and Block test (BBT), and Action Research Arm Test (ARAT) by two physical therapists. The examination took up to 1 hour, and the participants were invited to rest between each clinical measure in order to minimize the effects of fatigue. Clinical measures were assessed while the subjects were in the “on” phase of their medication cycle, generally 1-3 hour after taking their anti-Parkinson’s medications. Results: In more affected...
