Protective Effect of Phosphatidylcholine on Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Inflammation in Multiple Organ Injury

Soybean polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine (PC) is thought to exert anti-inflammatory activities and has potent effects in attenuating acute renal failure and liver dysfunction. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of PC in protecting multiple organ injury (MOI) from lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Six groups of rats (N=8) were used in this study. Three groups acted as controls and received only saline, hydrocortisone (HC, 6 mg/kg, i.v.) or PC (600 mg/kg, i.p.) without LPS (15 mg/kg,... -
Effect of Lidocaine·HCl on Microviscosity of Phosphatidylcholine Model Membrane

in a concentration-dependent manner, with a significant decrease in microviscosity value by injecting the local anesthetic even at the concentration of 0.5 mM. These results indicate that the direct environment of Py-3-Py in the SPMVPC model membranes is significantly fluidized by the lidocaine·HCl. Also, the present study explicitly shows that an interaction between local anesthetics and membrane lipids is of importance in the molecular mechanism of pharmacological action of lidocaine·HCl. -
A preliminary study of bone inducing effect by recombinant bone morphogenetic protein-2

In bone grafting, autogenous bone is considered the 'gold standard' to which other method are compared. The limitations of obtaining autogenous bone are obvious. Allograft, xenofraft and synthetic bone graft are widely used, but they have not solved all the problems in bone grafting. Generally, allograft or synthetic bone graft has lower healing capacity than autograft and carries a risk for certain disease, such as hepatitis or AIDS1). Occasionally, incomplete healing is seen in spite of proper... -
Effect of Lutein on L-NAME-Induced Hypertensive Rats
JiHoonSung, YoungSooJo, SuJinKim, JeongSooRyu, MyungChulKim, HyunJuKo, SangSooSim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.4 12 339-345 (7 pages)
We investigated the antihypertensive effect of lutein on NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride (L-NAME)-induced hypertensive rats. Daily oral administration of L-NAME (40 mg/kg)-induced a rapid progressive increase in mean arterial pressure (MAP). L-NAME significantly increased MAP from the first week compared to that in the control and reached 193.3±9.6 mmHg at the end of treatment. MAP in the lutein groups was dose-dependently lower than that in the L-NAME group. Similar results were... -
Effect of Vitamin E Supplementation on Intestinal Barrier Function in Rats Exposed to High Altitude Hypoxia Environment
ChunlanXu, RuiSun, XiangjinQiao, CuicuiXu, XiaoyaShang, WeiningNiu, YuChao 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2014, Vol.18 No.4 5 313-320 (8 pages)
The study was conducted to investigate the role of vitamin E in the high altitude hypoxia-induced damage to the intestinal barrier in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into control (Control), high altitude hypoxia (HH), and high altitude hypoxia+vitamin E (250 mg/kg BW*d) (HV) groups. After the third day, the HH and HV groups were placed in a hypobaric chamber at a stimulated elevation of 7000 m for 5 days. The rats in the HV group were given vitamin E by gavage daily for 8 days. The other... -
The Effect of Methanol on the Structural Parameters of Neuronal Membrane Lipid Bilayers

than increase in lateral and rotational mobilities by the methanol. Methanol alters the stereo or dynamics of the proteins in the lipid bilayers by combining with lipids, especially with the annular lipids. In conclusion, the present data suggest that methanol, in additions to its direct interaction with proteins, concurrently interacts with membrane lipids, fluidizing the membrane, and thus inducing conformational changes of proteins known to be intimately associated with membranes lipids. -
Protective Effect of Defibrotide on Splanchnic Injury following Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats

a high mortality rate. The effect of defibrotide, a complex of single-stranded polydeoxyribonucleotides having antithrombotic effect, was investigated in a model of splanchnic artery occlusion (SAO) shock in urethane anesthetized rats. Occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery for 90 min produced a severe shock state, resulting in a fatal outcome within 120 min of reperfusion in many rats. Defibrotide (10 mg/kg body weight) 10 min prior to reperfusion significantly improved mean arterial blood... -

This paper explores digital artworks that were mainly exhibited in the art gallery of GINUSEUM in Gyeongin National University of Education, Korea, and in the Community Media Center in Incheon. Last year, nine renowned artists from Korea participated in a media art exhibition titled Media Sensibilia in GINUSEUM. Consequently, a digital installation from the exhibition was invited to the Community Media Center in Incheon, for the experiential education of the residents. The fundamental purpose of... -

To evaluate radiosensitivity and the effects of radiation on the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and VEGF receptors in the canine oral melanoma cell line, TLM 1, cells were irradiated with doses of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 Gray (Gy). Survival rates were then determined by a MTT assay, while vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-1 and -2 expression was measured by flow cytometry and apoptotic cell death rates were investigated using an Annexin assay....
