at 1 month after UL. Compared with sham-operated animals, there was a significant reduction of LTP induction in the hippocampus at 1 day and 1 week after UL. However, LTP induction levels in the CA1 area of the hippocampus also returned to those of sham-operated animals 1 month following UL. These data suggest that unilateral injury of the peripheral vestibular end organs results in a transient deficit in synaptic plasticity in the CA1 hippocampal area at acute stages of vestibular compensation. -

movement (REM) sleep. In the molecular experiments. DCA (0.001, 0.01 and 0.1 μg/ml) increased intracellular Cl- influx level in hypothalamic primary cultured neuronal cells of rats. In addition, DCA increased the protein expression of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD65/67) and GABAA receptors subtypes. Taken together, these results suggest that DCA potentiates pentobarbital-induced sleeping behaviors through the activation of GABAA-ergic systems, and can be useful in the treatment of insomnia. -
Effect of 5-FU and MTX on the Expression of Drug-resistance Related Cancer Stem Cell Markers in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Cells
HeeYi, Hee-JungCho, Soo-MinCho, KyulJo, Jin-APark, Soo-HanLee, Byung-JoonChang, Jin-SukKim, Ho-ChulShin 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

MTX in the 3 cell lines mentioned and increased by 5-FU in the H460 cell line. The number of CD133(+) cells was also significantly increased by both 5-FU and MTX treatment in all of the cell lines tested. These results indicate that 5-FU and MTX considerably enhance the expression of drug-resistance related CSC markers in NSCLC cell lines. Thus, we suggest that antimetabolite cancer drugs, such as 5-FU and MTX, can lead to the propagation of CSCs through altering the expression of CSC markers. -

of Bax to mitochondria. Our results suggest that enhanced expression and activation of p53 was responsible for the upregulation of Bax and the increased sensitivity to apoptosis, which could be reversed by p53 knockdown. To explain the observed upregulation of p53, we propose a downregulation of the ubiquitin ligase HDM2, probably translationally. These findings show the importance of appropriate RCAN1.4 expression in the modulation of cell survival and reveal a link between RCAN1.4 and p53. -

compared muscle edema and the changes of eicosanoid concentration in the rat hind limb after ischemia-reperfusion injury by application of tourniquet. After 4 hours of ischemia, reperfusion was established for 4 hours by releasing tourniquet. To assess tissue damage, edema, and wet/dry weight ratios were determined and the eicosanoid concnentrations were measured by the HPLC. The muscle edema and the release of cyclooxygenase metabolites were not induced by the ischemia itself rather they were... -

AP-1 DNA binding activities, respectively. In the case of acute morphine treatment, the CREB and AP-1 DNA binding activities were shown to decrease in a time-dependent manner (30, 60, 90, and 120 min). Taken these together, in differentiated SH-SY5Y cells, morphine tolerance seems to involve simultaneous changes of the CREB and AP-1 DNA binding activities. Our data also suggest the possible involvement of haloperidol in prevention or reversal of morphine tolerance at the transcriptional level. -
