Embodied Culture in Pottery: Developing Teacher’s Package for Understanding Other’s Culture and Own Culture
Kim Haikyung 경인교육대학교 교육연구원 The Journal of Education 23 Pages
경인교육대학교 교육연구원 The Journal of Education 2018, Vol.1 No.2 3 29-51 (23 pages)
There are various perspectives on the roles and functions of museums. In modern times, socio-educational functions of museums are the most emphasized. Most museums offer programs for schools, but teachers still prefer not to visit them. The reason why teachers feel pressured to visit a museum is that they lack knowledge about museum exhibits. Also, it takes too much time and energy for individual teachers to reconstruct the curriculum in conjunction with museum exhibits. The link with the school... -

was completed in four phases. Phases one and two involved formulating the CDSCT design, writing an initial pool of 80 items from questions that the elementary school teachers reported using in career counseling, and reviewing the items for revision and deletion. These steps provided evidence of content-related validity by experts. For the third phase, apilot test was conducted with 10 5th grade students in elementary school to establish face validity. Finally, 23items were selected for CDSCT for... -
Inhibition of anterior cingulate cortex excitatory neuronal activity induces conditioned place preference in a mouse model of chronic inflammatory pain

The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is known for its role in perception of nociceptive signals and the associated emotional responses. Recent optogenetic studies, involving modulation of neuronal activity in the ACC, show that the ACC can modulate mechanical hyperalgesia. In the present study, we used optogenetic techniques to selectively modulate excitatory pyramidal neurons and inhibitory interneurons in the ACC in a model of chronic inflammatory pain to assess their motivational effect in the... -

In the surveys, the participants were asked to elaborate on their experience on communication and authentic reading materials. In the interviews conducted in a semi-structured form, they spelled out their story untold in the surveys. The findings showed that the participants engaged in reading, broadened their perspectives on the topics discussed, and enjoyed student-oriented activities. -

Curators supporting the new technology argue that such innovations offer flexibility and new solution to the problem of representing complex ideas and processes. Researchers in the museum field agree that new technologies can transform the ability of museum visitors and museum professionals to interact with museum objects. -

of risk-avoidance appeals in unhealthy food advertising are differently predicted by consumers’ self- and functional congruity. In addition, this research explored whether the predictive effects are moderated by consumers’ current dieting status and physiological gender. An experimental study found that functional-congruity had stronger predictive effects on ad evaluations than self-congruity. Moreover, the risk-avoidance appeals in unhealthy food advertising are more cognitively processed by... -

study was conducted online among nonsmoking college students in the U.S. and South Korea. Message appeals were tested in ads that oppose secondhand smoke, a prominent health issue in both countries. There are two major findings. First, regardless of culture, norm appeals ― particularly injunctive but not descriptive norm appeals ― are more effective than threat appeals on behavioral intention. Second, people in an individualistic culture responded more favorably to threat appeals than those in... -

Resilience is defined as a “positive adaption in the face of risk or adversity” (Wright, Masten, & Narayan, 2013). Both the teachers’ resilience and their readiness to develop preschool children’s resilience were examined in the Hong Kong context (n=196). Results from the K-means cluster analysis indicated that Hong Kong preschool teachers had a relatively high level of resilience, with family being a significant contributing factor. These teachers were generally ready to foster children’s... -

Correlation and regression analyses conducted revealed some relationships between beliefs and reported practices as well as associations of beliefs and practices with certain personal and kindergarten factors. Overall, beliefs in child-centeredness and teacher-centeredness predicted interactive academic activities, and beliefs in teacher-centeredness influenced reports of engaging in structured academic and teacher-led activities after controlling for demographic and contextual variables. -

in human history. Being outdoors generally costs nothing and can be extremely pleasurable. Yet outdoor opportunities that were once taken for granted are diminishing (Bhosale, Duncan, & Schofield, 2017; Milteer, Ginsburg, & Mulligan, 2012; Woolley & Griffin, 2015). Rhee (2016) noted that in many Asian regions, preference for more academically oriented activities in early childhood education settings has led to both indoor and outdoor play being sidelined. Outdoors is considered to be riskier and... -

Each constraint was tested through audio-visual PowerPoint slides and these were the sources of the data for this study. Through these tests, the study found that the 3-year old respondents assign a new word/label to the whole object and not to any of its parts. A new word/label, however, is assigned to a part of the... -
