7 of total 14 antimicrobial agents. In comparison with isolates in 1998, resistance to antimicrobialswas more frequent among the isolates in 2002. Presence of class 1 integrons was investigated through amplification of the gene with PCR, and could be classified 8 groups by pattern of 4 different amplicons. Class 1 integrons were observed in 67 strains (64.2%)of E. coli from swine in Korea. One and 1.6 kbp of amplicons were revealed to contain aadA1 and aadB-aadA1 gene cassettes respectively. Two... -

students enrolled in their first year of class piano participated in the semester-long study. At the end of instruction, each student performed and improvised two tunes both vocally and instrumentally. Three independent judges rated recordings of student performances using rating scales designed to measure tonal, rhythm, expressive, and improvisation skills. Quantitative results showed that an aural approach to improvisation in collegiate class piano may have led to improved music achievement. -

This study explored the effects of the use of ASR-embedded dictionary app in providing corrective feedback on EFL college students pronunciation. During the six-week instruction, students of the ARS-based feedback group (n = 20) practiced their English pronunciation via the ARS-embedded dictionary app and those of the Peer-feedback group (n = 20) worked in pairs. Comparisons were made between pre- and post-test scores and the students responses to a follow-up questionnaire were analyzed by... -

use recordings seem to be more satisfied with online lectures than those who simply attend at their disposal. Further, low immersion and weak feedback are two major problems with online lectures; the former may have a greater negative effect on students with low competency, while feedback issues do not undermine student satisfaction as much. Finally, as students may get distracted if the lecture runs for longer than one hour, professors ought to manage class time for better learning outcomes. -

There are various perspectives on the roles and functions of museums. In modern times, socio-educational functions of museums are the most emphasized. Most museums offer programs for schools, but teachers still prefer not to visit them. The reason why teachers feel pressured to visit a museum is that they lack knowledge about museum exhibits. Also, it takes too much time and energy for individual teachers to reconstruct the curriculum in conjunction with museum exhibits. The link with the school... -

Transgenic (TG) pigs are important in biomedical research and are used in disease modeling, pharmaceutical toxicity testing, and regenerative medicine. In this study, we constructed two vector systems by using the promoter of the pig glial fibrillary acidic protein (pGFAP) gene, which is an astrocyte cell marker. We established donor TG fibroblasts with pGFAP-CreERT2/LCMV-EGFPLoxP and evaluated the effect of the transgenes on TG-somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) embryo development. Cleavage... -

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and Salmonella Pullorum have significant damaging effects on the poultry industry, but no previous vaccine can protect poultry effectively. In this study, a recombinant-attenuated S. Pullorum strain secreting the NDV hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) protein, C79-13ΔcrpΔasd (pYA-HN), was constructed by using the suicide plasmid pREasd-mediated bacteria homologous recombination method to form a new bivalent vaccine candidate against Newcastle disease (ND) and S.... -

A fixed-dose combination tablet of benazepril and pimobendan (Fortekor Plus; Elanco Animal Health) was tested in dogs with congestive heart failure (CHF) caused by myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) in a three-arm, masked, randomized, non-inferiority clinical trial in Japan. The test group (n = 34) received Fortekor Plus twice daily. Two control groups received registered formulations of benazepril (Fortekor; Elanco Animal Health) and pimobendan (Vetmedin; Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica)... -
Innate immune response of bovine mammary epithelial cells to Mycoplasma bovis

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 1호 11 79-87 (9 pages)
Mycoplasma spp. are contagious bacteria, and mycoplasmal mastitis is a serious productivity problem on dairy farms. Bovine mammary epithelial cells (bMECs) have an important role in the elimination of pathogens, but the effect of Mycoplasma bovis on bMECs has not been fully described. To elucidate the immune response against intramammary infection by M. bovis, we undertook microarray analysis to examine and profile mRNA expression in bMECs after stimulation with M. bovis. We also compared the... -

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2017, 제 18권 제 3호 11 341-348 (8 pages)
Guanylyl cyclase C (GC-C) is a member of a family of enzymes that metabolize GTP to cGMP and was first identified as a receptor for heat-stable enterotoxin. Guanylin (GNY) has since been identified as an endogenous ligand for GC-C in the intestine of several mammalian species. The GNY/GC-C system regulates ion transportation and pH in the mucosa. Recently, it was reported that GC-C and GNY are involved in lipid metabolism in rat mesenteric adipose tissue macrophages. To examine the role of GC-C... -

of the isolates were multidrug resistant. The dog isolates (12.3%) harbored class 1 integrons, of which the dfrA12-aadA2 cassette was most frequent (66.7%). The only class integron in serovar Albany was located on a conjugative plasmid. Two ESBL-producing isolates (i.e., a serovar Krefeld and a serovar Enteritridis) carried blaTEM and blaCTX-M, and the blaTEM gene in both was horizontally transferred. Of the plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance genes tested, only qnrS (4.9%) was detected. Most... -
Paclitaxel inhibits the hyper-activation of spleen cells by lipopolysaccharide and induces cell death
Hyun-Ji Kim, Hong-Gu Joo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2016, 제 17권 제 4호 3 453-458 (6 pages)
Paclitaxel was isolated from the bark of the Pacific yew, Taxus brevifolia, and used as an anticancer agent. Paclitaxel prevents cancer cell division by inhibiting spindle fiber function, inducing cell death. A recent study demonstrated that paclitaxel binds to myeloid differentiation protein-2 of Toll-like receptor 4 and prevents the signal transduction of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Paclitaxel converts immune cells hypo-responsive to LPS. In this study, we investigated whether paclitaxel can... -

in proliferation in the presence of the MSC, but the apoptosis rate of the lymphocytes was increased in the presence of MSC. Taken together, these findings indicate that UCB-derived MSC differentiated to chondrocytes expressed less HLA class I and no class II antigens. The MSC showed an immunomodulatory effect on the proliferation and apoptosis of allogeneic lymphocytes. These data suggest that the differentiated and undifferentiated allogeneic MSC derived from umbilical cord blood can be a... -

to their antimicrobial resistance phenotypes. Four of the AR E. coli carried class 1 integrase gene (intI1), a gene associated with multi-drug resistance. Pulsed-field gel electrophoretic analysis showed no genetic relatedness among AR E. coli isolated from different facilities; however, cross-transmissions between horses or horses and environments were detected in two facilities. Although cross-transmission of AR E. coli in horses and their environments was generally low, our study suggests a...
