솔잎혹파리 해충의 각령을 구별하여 그들의 야외에서의 출현시기를 조사하기 위하여 일본국의 좌하현에 위치한 홍の송원 국유림에서 1981년부터 1982년에 걸쳐 본 연구를 행하였으며 그 행하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 솔잎혹파리는 그 해충이 3령을 거친다. 2) 1령유충은 미단돌기를 가지지 않고 그 호흡은 metapneustic인데 비하여 2령과 3령해충은 복부 제9절 한쌍의 미단돌기를 가지면 호흡은 peripneustic이다. 3) 2령은 기문이 몸 밖으로 돌출해 있고 미단돌기의 폭은 그 기문의 폭보다 훨씬 좁은데 비해, 3령은 복부 8절을 제외하고는 몸 밖으로 두드러지지 않으며 미단돌기의 폭은 기문의 폭보다 넓거나 거의 같다. 4) 3령만이 흉골(breast bone)을 가지고 있다. 5) 1령은 6월초순부터 9월중순경까지, 2령은 8월하순부터 9월하순까지 각각 출현하였으며 10월 이후에는 월동유충인 3령만이 관찰되었다.
This study was carried out to examine the appearance period of each instar by the instar discrimination of Thecodiplosis japcnensis larvae at Nijino-Matsubara located in Saga Prefecture, Japan in 1981 and 1982. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1) Pine needle gall midge, Thecodiplosis japonensis has three larval stages. 2) The first instar has not a pair of caudal processes but 2nd and 3rd instar have them on 9th abdominal segment. 3) Respiration is metapneustic in 1st instar but 2nd and ,3rd instar are peripneustic 4) The width of the caudal processes of 3rd instar is as wide as that of its spiracles but in the 2nd instar, it is considerably narrower than that of its spiracles. 5) All the spiracles of 2nd instar are prominent but those of 3rd instar are not prominent or raised up from the body surface. 6) 3rd instar only has breast bone. 7) The appearance period of each instar was examined on the basis of the discrimination of instar.
