미국흰불나방의 성페로몬선과 화학수용기의 형태를 과학현미경과 주사현미경을 이용하여 관찰하였다. 성충암컷의 성페로몬선은 복수 제8,9절의 내환절막에 위치하고 있으며, 양끝은 흉부쪽으로 약간 함입되어 있다. 성페로몬선은 원주세포로 되어 있고, 핵은 기저막 쪽으로 치우쳐 있다. 큐티클은 endocuticle과 exocuticle의 두 층으로 되어 있다. 성충수컷의 촉각은 수 많은 Y 자형의 편절구조로 되어 있고, 그 끝에는 강모가 1개씩 돌출되어 있으며, 강모밑에 유두형의 감각모가 돋아 있는데 이것이 화학수용기로서의 기능을 가진 것으로 사료된다.
The morphological structures of sex pheromone gland and chemoreceptor of the antennae of the fall webworm, Hyphantria cuneu Drury, were visualized by light and scanning electron microscope. Sex pheromone cells of the virgin female were morphologically of various columnar forms, their length was 7${mu}$, and they were arranged in monolayer. Lumen wall was covered with the bilayered ruticle-endocuticle and exocuticle-distinguished by the staining degree, and extended deeply towards the thorax. The antennae of the male were composed of numerous segments covered with scales on the outside and hairs on the inside. Protruded from the tip of each segment was a bristle, which was 50${mu}$ in length, and at the bottom of the brisile was a papillary process 4${mu}$ in diameter. This external structure suggests that the papillary process plays the role of chemoreceptor in the male moth.
