Computed tomography(CT) is a very convenient and noninvasive method in the staging of bladder car-cinoma as CT gives an accurate information of extension of tumor outside the bladder onto the neighboring structures and pelvic side walls. CT is also a very useful method in determination of lymph nodes or distant metastasis. In order to determine the accuracy and significancy of CT staging in bladder carcinoma authors performed this comparative study between preoperative (prospective) CT staging and pathologic staging in 30 cases of bladder carcinoma. Overall accuracy of CT staging in bladder carcinoma was 66% and detection in lymphadenopathy was 83% This result is considerably superior to the accuracy of conventional staging method in bladder carcinoma which shows 50-56% accuracy. Overstaging by CT was 20% and understaging was 13%. These are due to microscopic invasion of tumor which is not detected by CT false positive and false negative lymphadenopathy. It is con-sidered that high resolution CT scanning with some modified scan technique is essential for correct staging of bladder carcinoma.
