배추흰나비 (Piepis rapae L.) 하순수에 있는 화학감각기의 발생을 용화 후부터 성충까지 SEM과 TEM을 사용하여 연구하였다. 용화후 16시간에 감각기의 원기세포를 구별할 수가 있다. 초기감각 신경세포 중간 부위에서 수상돌기가 될 약 15개의 stereo-cilia 같은 돌기를 내는데, 대부분의 이 돌기들은 30시간내에 퇴화를 하고 1~3개의 돌기만이 9$ imes$2+0 microtubules구조를 가진 수상돌기로 분화된다. 용화 20시간 후 감각기는 세 개의 지지세포들과 대부분 세 개의 신경세포로 구성되어 있는데 이중 두 개는 40시간 안에 퇴화를 하고 그 중 하나만 성충의 신경세포로 분화된다. 계속되는 신경세포의 분화는, (1) 수상돌기와 생모세포돌기의 신장, (2) 큐티클의 분비, (3) 감각공 및 공미세소관들이 감각모에서 형성, (4) 수상돌기의 분비 및 수상돌기의 나선모양의 형성 등이다. 이와 같은 나선모양은 용화 후 5일에 완료된다. 용화 5일후 감각기의 모든 부분이 거의 완성되며 배추흰나비는 이후 40시간 즉 용화 후 160시간 경에는 성충으로 우화한다.
The ontogeny of the chemosensilla in the labial palp-pit organ (LPPO) between pupation and emergence of the imago was studied in Pieris rapae by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. About 16 h after pupation the anlagen of the single sensilla are clearly visible. The developing sensory cells bear numerous stereo-cilia-like processes within the inner receptor lymph cavity. About 15 processes per a single sensory cell were counted. Most of them disappear during a period of about 30 hours. Only one process in each sensory cell differentiates into the dendritic outer segment which houses a 9${ imes}$2+0 microtubules pattern. The sensilla consist of three enveloping cells and, in most cases, of three sensory cells at 20 h after pupation. However two sensory cells degenerate in each sensillum during a period of about 40 hours. Further consecutive steps in sensory cell differentiation are: (1) outgrowth of the dendritic outer segment and dendritic sheath, (2) outgrowth of trichogen cell process and deposition of cuticle, (3) formation of pores and pore tubules in the sensory peg, (4) branching and lamellation of dendritic outer segment. The lamellaton starts about 120 h after pupation, i.e., 40 h before emergence of the imago. In this stage, the development of the LPPO is almost completed.
