제주도산 모기연구에 관한 연혁을 보면 한국학자(1961, 1968), WHO 자문관(1969), 일본학자 (1973, 1979) 그리고 미 8 군 곤충학자(1966-1979)에 의해 수행되어 왔다. 이들의 조사에 의하면 모두 5속 24종이 기록되었으나, 입증할만한 증빙표본과 채집기록이 보관되어 있지 않다. 그러므로 증빙표본을 확보하고 이를 재확인하고자 7년(1969, 1973, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1990)간 포괄적으로 다양한 처식처를 찾아 성충과 유충채집을 실시한 바 다음과 같이 5속 19종을 확인하였다. Anopheles sinensis, An. lindesayi japonicus, An. sineroides, Aedes albopictus, Ae. flavopictus, Ae. japonicus, Ae. togoi, Ae. hatorii, Ae. vexans nipponii, Culex kyotoensis, Cx. bitaeniorhynchus, Cx. hayashii, Cx. tritaeniorhynchus, Cx. orientalis, Cx. vagans, Cx. pipiens pallens, Cx. fuscanus, Tripteroides bambusa, Armigeres subalbatus.
Studies on the mosquito fauna of Cheju Island were carried out by Korean workers in 1961 and 1968, a WHO consultant for JEVRU-Korea in 1969, Japanese workers in 1973, 1979, and U.S. Army (5th PMU) investigators from 1966 to 1979. Based on the available information, 24 species representing 5 genera were recorded. However, no voucher specimens and collection data were preserved. To develop a comprehensive reference collection and clarify the mosquito fauna of Cheju Island, the intensive survey was undertaken for 7 years (1969, 1973, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1990). During this period 19 species representing 5 genera were confirmed as follows: Anopheles sinensis, An. lindesayi japonicus, An. sineroides, Aedes albopictus, Ae. flavopictus, Ae. japonicus, Ae. togoi, Ae. hatorii, Ae. vexans nipponii, Culex kyotoensis, Cx. bitaeniorhynchus, Cx. hayashii, Cx. tritaeniorhynchus, Cx. orientalis, Cx. vagans, Cx. pipiens pallens, Cx. fuscanus, Tripteroides bambusa, Armigeres subalbatus.
