The purpose of this research is to find out the strategies to improve the professionalism of librarianship in Korea. It is generally accepted that the conditions of librarianship as a profession have been formalized but lack in fulfilling the standards required to be recognized as a profession. This research tries to examine the qualifications of and the educational system for librarians. It also traces how the researches in the library and information science and activities of the library association and Professional communities have contributed to the development of librarianship.
