A considerable improvement was evident in the mechanical properties after the stepped austempering treatment compared to the single treatment at $300^{circ}C$. The changes are such that elongation, impact energy and tensile strength almost satisfy the standard ASTM A897/A897M-03 : 2002 for austempering time from 30 min to 1440 min. Controlled austenitizing and second step austempering temperature can be used to make relative improvements in the mechanical properties.
