The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of ultraviolet (UV) treatment on the hydrophilic properties and removal of particulate soils from microfiber fabrics. A nylon/polyester microfiber knit fabric was irradiated by UV with different treatment times upto 90 min. The hydrophilic properties such as sediment time and contact angle were increased gradually with increase of UV treatment time. However, wicking and water adsorption rate decreased with increase in UV treatment time, which resulted in damage of capillary channel on fabrics. UV treated and untreated fabrics were soiled with carbon black and washed by Launder-O-meter at $40^{circ}C$ with 40 rpm. In order to assess degree of soil removal, following analysis was carried out to remove soils on the fabrics: surface reflectance, K/S was measured to quantify the amount of remaining carbon black and $alpha-Fe_2O_3$. The deposition behavior of carbon black on UV treated/untreated fabrics has been also investigated. The soils were more efficiently removed with the increase of UV treatment time.
