The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of multimedia safety education in the Theme Approach Integrated Curriculum. A full-day class of a university-affiliated kindergarten in Seoul was observed.
Transcripts that included cases of effective safety education were collected and classified according to educational implication. The results of the multimedia safety education are as follows: First, the effectiveness of multimedia safety education cycled between uninternalized acceptance, conflict, willful behavior and executed behavior. Second, through a natural extension, not only children but also parents were inspired to think and behave in a safer manner. This allowed for a continuous application towards life outside the kindergarten. Thus multimedia safety education based on the Theme Approach Integrated Curriculum is an appropriate instruction-learning method for fostering the development of safety awareness and attitudes, and ability to react in a proactive manner.
