영어와 한국어와 같은 언어학적 차이가 큰 두 언어를 번역하기 위해서는 어순 조정이 필요하다. 본 논문은 비투사 의존구문분석 기법을 활용해 어순 조정을 하는 방법을 제안한다. 주어진 문장에 대해 기존의 방법은 전통적인 구문분석을 통해 문법적인 계층구조(syntactic tree)를 나타내지만, 제안하는 방법은 어순 조정을 명시한 계층구조(reordering tree)를 얻는다. 어순이 조정된 입력문을 구 기반 통계기계번역을 통해 번역하여 번역 과정에서 발생하는 어순 조정 문제를 해결한다. 영어와 한국어 사이에서 제안한 방법을 통해 번역을 수행한 결과 유의미한 성능 향상이 있었으며, 특히 어순 조정을 반영하는 평가결과에 따른 성능 향상이 두드러졌다.
Linguistically distant language pairs such as English and Korean require word reordering for translation. This paper proposes a word reordering method using a non-projective dependency parsing algorithm. For a given source sentence, unlike traditional approaches that produce a syntactic structure via syntactic parsing, our proposed method produces a hierarchical structure (reordering tree) that represents a reordered source sentence. We then solve the word reordering problem for translation under a pre-ordering framework that translates the reordered sentence. In an English-to-Korean translation, the pre-ordering framework using our proposed method improves the translation quality, especially according to an evaluation metric that reveals word reordering.
