본 연구는 24～36개월 영아의 의사소통적 몸짓과 기질 그리고 어휘력의 관계를 파악하고 몸짓과 기질 이 어휘력에 미치는 영향력을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구대상은 전북 J시와 G시에 소재한 어린이집 32개소에 재원 중인 24～36개월의 영아 86명이다. 연구결과를 요약하면 첫째, 24～36개월 영아의 의사소통적 몸짓과 영아의 이해어휘 및 표현어휘는 전체적으로 정적 상관관계가 있었다. 의사 소통적 몸짓의 유형별로 살펴보면 지시적 몸짓은 이해어휘 및 표현어휘와 부적 상관관계가 있었지만, 표상적 몸짓은 이해어휘 및 표현어휘와 정적 상관관계가 있었다. 둘째, 영아 기질의 구성차원 중 활동 성과 접근-회피, 적응성, 기분은 전체 어휘와 부적 상관관계가 있었다. 기질의 구성차원별로 살펴보 면 활동성은 이해어휘와 부적 상관관계가 있었고, 접근-회피와 적응성, 기분은 이해어휘 및 표현어휘 와 부적 상관관계가 있었다. 셋째, 영아의 이해어휘 및 표현어휘에 대한 의사소통적 몸짓과 기질의 영 향력을 알아본 결과, 이해어휘에 대해서는 적응성, 지시적 몸짓, 반응강도, 활동성, 표상적 몸짓 순 으로 영향을 크게 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 표현어휘에 대해서는 표상적 몸짓, 지시적 몸짓, 적응성 순으로 영향력이 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구의 결과는 영아가 타인과 효과적으로 의사소 통할 수 있도록 돕고 교사나 부모가 영아의 의사소통 능력 신장을 위한 방안을 모색하는 데 기초자료 로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between communicative gestures, temperament, and vocabulary ability of infants. The subject of this study is 24 to 36 month old infants who are attending 32 childcare centers in J city and G city, Jeollabuk-do province. The results are as follows: First, there is a positive correlation between infants’ communicative gestures and both their receptive and expressive vocabulary. However, directive gestures have a negative correlation with both receptive and expressive vocabulary, whereas representative gestures have a positive correlation with both receptive and expressive vocabulary. Second, activeness and approach-evasion, which are included in infants’ temperament dimension, have a negative correlation with both type of vocabulary. Third, results of examining the influence of infants’ communicative gestures and temperament on their receptive and expressive vocabulary show us that temperament factors influence most on receptive one, while gestures have the strongest influence on expressive one.
