Lanfilling of bottom ashes generated from MSWI can cause various problems on environment.
Especially, heavy metals or dioxins leached from bottom ashes can be one of most significant
problems. Interestingly, leaching characteristics of dioxins from bottom ashes can be depending on
landfill conditions including geological locations, types of landfill waste, ladfilling method, and so on. In
this research, total dioxin contents in bottom ashes were measured and amounts of dioxins leached
from bottom ashes were investigated by a standard leaching test. Total dioxin content in bottom ash
was 0.014 ng-TEQ/g, and the dioxin concentrations in leachate was 0.004 ng-TEQ/g. The concentrations
of higher chlorinated dioxins were found to be larger than lower chlorinated ones, and 0.06 % of total
dioxin content was leached from bottom ash in this experimental condition.
