This study divided examined an essay for teaching profession written by a pre-service teacher on the
past exam questions of the essay writing in 2011 by dividing it expert evaluation and editing and
students’ reflections. First, with regard to the essay evaluation, this study designed new scoring elements
and criteria by category with reference to the essay writing system and content classification method
proposed by Lim Sung-Kyu (2009, 2012a). Based on them, the student’s work was evaluated. As a result,
it enabled us to systematically evaluate and edit the student’s work according to the evaluation elements
and scoring criteria. Next, the students’ reflections were examined by dividing it into the students’
responses and evaluation. In the student responses, the students presented their own views of the expert
editing. The students reflected their own writing method by accepting or refusing advice by experts. They
underwent a process of thoroughly reflecting which pedagogical knowledge they lacked related to essay
for teaching profession and which writing method and knowledge of the writing method and Korean
language expressions and writing system. Subsequently, they rewrote their essays based on these reflection
results.
