본 연구의 목적은 예비 초등교사들이 외국문화에서 하는 교육경험이 그들의 능력개발에 어떤 효과를 미치는가를 파악하는 것이었다. 연구대상은 중부지방에 소재한 한 교육대학교의 3학년 12명이며, 영어공인인증시험 점수, 교내 영어면접, 실습학교 교장과의 5분 전화면접 등으로 선발되었으며, 하와이 한 초등학교에서 여름학교에서 1주간의 사전교육과 4주간의 실습에 참여 하였다. 연구방법은 연구대상자들에 대한 포커스집단 면접, 지도교사들의 지필평가, 미국 예비교사능력평가기준 체크리스트 등 이 포함되었다. 포커스집단 면접은 실습 4주차에 연구대상자들을 대상으로 연구자 중 1명이 현지에서 실시하였으며, 지도교사 들의 지필평가와 예비교사능력평가기준 체크리스트는 실습 후 실습 지도교사들이 평정한 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 자료 분석은 질적 분석을 주로 하였으며, 양적 분석은 비율분석으로 질적 분석을 재검증하여 주었다. 연구결과로서 첫째로 연구대상 들은 미국 교육과정 운영의 다양성, 다양한 학생들에 대한 수준별 교육, 다양한 교구준비 등의 중요성을 경험하였다. 둘째로 실습지도교사들의 관점에서는 연구대상자들의 복무태도, 수업, 교실관리, 전문성이 양호한 것으로 평가되었다. 셋째로 미국 예 비교사의 표준기준에 비해서는 교수전략, 수업계획, 평가방법, 다 수준 교육 등의 영역이 낮게 평가되었다. 이러한 결과에 대한 논의와 제언을 제시하였다.
The purpose of this study was to analyze what the pre-teacher experienced and felt on their ability development through the practicum abroad, to examine what the mentor teachers abroad experienced and felt on the pre-teachers' ability development through the practicum, and to verify how they evaluated the pre-teachers' abilities based upon the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) in the United States of America. The research methods included focus group interviews as a qualitative research method, artifacts (documents) analysis, and the practicum evaluation inquiry as a quantitative data analysis method. The subjects were 12 pre-teachers from a National University of Education in Korea and 12 mentor teachers from the U. S. A. The results showed as follows. First, the pre-teachers reported they eye-witnessed their foreign mentors operated multi-level curriculum and were very responsive to their various students. Second, the mentors evaluated most pre-teachers' abilities highly (more than 90 point percents) on their recommendation letter and written evaluation documents. Third, the mentors reported the pre-teachers' abilities were 86 point percents satisfactory on the INTASC standards. In addition, some implications were discussed to improve the practicum abroad.
