Although in Hegel the absolute Spirit is duplicated and falls asunder at the stage of unhappy consciousness, it is reconciled with itself and reaches the happy consciousness in the process of reciprocal movement of the individuals. In the self-movement of the absolute spirit whose essence consists in freedom, the individual forms the world with the practical activity. In this world, the individual realizes freedom as its own essence and consequently, it becomes itself. Moreover, in the knowledge that the world to which the individual belongs is his/her own product, the particular and the universal are no longer considered as an opposition; on the contrary, they are in the reciprocity. Owing to this practical activity of the individual, the absolute spirit recovers itself and becomes the happy consciousness. It is, however, worth noting here that for Hegel the realization of the absolute spirit as freedom takes place in the history of man. Moreover, since the realization of freedom is only possible by presupposing the action of man, the split of the Unhappy consciousness is a necessary condition for the absolute spirit, which conceives itself as the happy consciousness. For this reason, the split of the unhappy consciousness is not to be understood negatively as an opposition to the happy consciousness. On the contrary, they are interdependent and have a dialectical relation. Also in the realization of the absolute spirit, the individual transcends itself, and this transcendence is nothing other than the transcending toward freedom. In this action of transcendence, the split and finitude of the individual is finally overcome.
