이 연구는 ‘교육이론이란 무엇인가’를 탐구한 Adams, Moore, 장상호의 저서를 분석하고, 교육 학의 발전이라는 맥락에서 교육이론의 주요 쟁점을 탐색했다. 세 연구자들은 교육학이 형성되어 오늘에 이르는 100여년의 역사에서 각각 중요한 시기에 교육이론의 성격을 연구한 저서를 출간했 다. Adams의 저서는 대학에 교육학과가 등장하기 시작한 1900년대 초반에 출판된 것인데, 당시 교육이론에 대한 교육학자들의 고민과 바람이 무엇인지를 보여준다. Moore의 저작은 교육학이 대 학의 한 학과로 자리를 잡은 시기에 출간된 것인데, 다른 학자와 교사들이 교육이론을 어떻게 평 가하고 있는지, 또 그에 대한 교육학자의 반응이 어떤 것인지를 알 수 있다. 장상호는 대학의 변화 와 위기의 시기에 현존 교육학이 갖고 있는 근본적인 문제와 앞으로 교육학이 지향해야 할 방향을 보여준다. 이 세 학자의 저작들은 교육학의 과거와 현재, 그리고 미래를 우리에게 보여주고 있으 며, 그를 통해 교육학자로서의 우리 자신과 연구활동을 성찰하게 한다.
This study aims to examine the characteristic of the theory of education and fine the key points for development of the discipline of education. To achieve this goal, I made an analysis of the three major works of Adams, Moore, and Chang. This researchers had studied the characteristic of the theory of education. This works had been accomplished at the early, mid, and end of 20th century. On the whole, this three period correspond to the birth, growth, and crisis period of discipline of education in the university. The study argued the three key points for development of the discipline of education. First was what is the relationship between education and theory of education. Second was what is the relationship between the theory of education and the discipline of education. Third was the direction for the development of the discipline of education.
