학문 세계에서 사용되는 용어는 그 특성상 일반적으로 통용되는 용어에 비해 엄밀하게 검토되 어야 할 필요가 있다. ‘의무교육’은 충분한 검토가 이루어지지 않은 채 무분별하게 사용되고 있다 고 의심받는 용어 중 하나로 학계와 비학계를 막론하고 두루 쓰이고 있다. 우리나라에서 ‘의무교 육’과 관련된 논의는 개화기부터 있어왔지만 본격적으로 ‘의무교육’ 용어를 정의하고자 시도한 연구 는 많지 않았다. 더욱이 나름의 용어 정의를 시도한 연구들조차도 용어 사용의 중의성, 애매성, 모 순성, 잉여성 오류를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이로 인해 나타나는 ‘의무교육’ 용어 사용의 비일관 성 문제와 ‘의무교육’ 용어의 적절성 문제는 시급히 해결되어야할 사안으로 보인다.
This study is an extension of recently deconstruction study in Pedagogy. Deconstruction of the term ‘Education’ which used without academic review and definition can make confusion on communication in that academic discipline. The term ‘Compulsory Education’ is used in both Life-world and Academic-world, and be suspected of using without strict review. This study tried review conceptual validity through deconstruction of th term ‘Education’ in the study of ‘Compulsory Education’. Result of deconstruction, this research found two problem in using term ‘Compulsory Education’. First, almost researches have problem of consistency in using the terms. Second, we need to study more about appropriateness of the term.
