This study aims to explore the variables influencing family function of professional
soldiers by employing Bronfenbrenner’s Eco-systematic approach. 262 married
professional soldiers were selected as subjects. The frequency analysis, descriptive
statistic, multiple regression analysis, and hierarchial regression analysis of the collected
data were done by using PASW software.
The results of this research are as follows. First, all of the eco-systematic variables
influence on the family function of professional soldiers. In terms of the organism factors,
the family has better function when it has shorter period of service, higher income per
month, and a dual income. Regarding the microsystem variables, the family has better
function when it has higher satisfaction on the marriage and the job, and for the
mesosystem variables, it shows better function when it has stronger bond with its
neighborhood and participates less in community organization. Besides, for the exosystem
variables, the better family function can be predicted by having better social evaluation
and less responsibility on any official community meeting, and when it comes to the
macro system, higher recognition of organizational commitment was identified as the
predictor. Second, the microsystem variables has the highest influence on overall family
function of professional soldiers and its three subsets. The result could be interpreted in
the sense of Eco-systematic perspective that all of the system have the effect on family
function while the microsystem has the highest level out of the others.
This study contributes to determine the variables that predict the family function of
professional soldiers and its relative effect by employing Eco-systematic approach. Based
on the result of the research, practical and political direction can be further discussed in
order to improve family welfare of professional soldiers.
