This study intended to identify different level of student engagement of university students in Korea. In addition, the study investigated whether the classes could be differentiated in terms of predictors. Samples include 49,755 students from 86 universities. Data were analyzed using Latent Class Analysis(LCA) to identify different patterns of student engagement. Multinomial logistic regression analysis were employed to test the influence of predictors for classification among latent classes. The study found seven latent classes: at risk class, lower interaction learner class, strategic learner class, middle-level engaged learner class, intensive learner class, excellent academic engagement class, and lower interaction learner class. Multinomial logistic regression results showed that each distinctive engagement class can be identified by some of predictors. This study also revealed the within-institution effects by showing the influence of participation in high impact practices on the academic engagement style. The study suggests that higher education professionals should make efforts to develop the university system for early detection and intervention for students at risk and help them better engaged in learning and a variety of college activities.
