The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of language proficiency and notice the difficulty of defining proficiency, especially in differentiating among what is commonly thought to be ‘beginning’, ‘intermediate’, and ‘advanced’ levels. We need to recognize methodological differences among teaching classes of beginning, intermediate and advanced students and apply concepts of accuracy, fluency, comprehensibility, grammaticality, and sociolinguistic appropriateness to an understanding of proficiency.
본 연구의 목적은 영어교육에 있어 학습자의 언어 능숙도 수준에 따른 적절한 교수 방법을 살펴보고자 함이다. 먼저 언어 능숙도라는 개념을 분석하고 능숙도의 정의와 일반적으로‘초급’, ‘중급’, ‘고급’ 수준이라고 생각하는 것들 간의 구별이 어렵 다는 것을 보여준다. 또한, 학생들의 지도에 있어 능숙도별 교수 방법론적 차이를 인식 하고 정확성, 유창성, 이해가능성, 문법성, 사회언어학적 적절성이라는 개념을 능숙도에 대한 이해에 적용시키고자 한다.
