The purpose of this study was to promote the quality of child care for young
children under 3 as a survey research of parents′perspectives of a theory of
mother-child relationship in Korea.
The data of the study were collected using a rating scale for parents. These
questionnaires for parents′were translated into Korean by researches based on
questionnaires originally developed by Shibata. A total of sujects were 250 child
care centers′parents and 250 kindergarten parents in Seoul and Kyounggido. The
results of this study were analyzed based on 43 questionnaire items by using
factor analysis and used SAS package.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, child care centers′parents and kindergarten parents in Korea had
comprehensive perspectives including the theory of attachment behavior, the theory
of a communication, the control theory of a breast-feeding oriented motive, and
the innate theory. Second, according to the above results, child care centers′
parents and kindergarten parents in Korea had the perspective of the theory of
attachment behavior as the most significant factor. That is, parents thought that a
mother-child attachment formation for young children under 3 was critical in
life-span. Therefore, the study indicates that young children under 3 must be
brought up by their mothers.
