The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship among empowering leadership, psychological
ownership, job engagement, and individual creativity. Empowering leadership is considered one of the
most important key success factors for organizational growth. In order to analyze study hypotheses, a
survey was conducted by distributing questionnaire to 229 employees in small and medium sized
companies. Total 188 employees responded to the survey and their data were included for the statistical
analysis. The main results of this study are as follows. First, empowering leadership is positively related
to psychological ownership, job engagement, and individual creativity. Second, psychological ownership
have positively meaningful influences on job engagement and individual creativity. Third, followers’
psychological ownership fully mediates the relation among empowering leadership, job engagement, and
individual creativity. This study has a theoretical contribution since it demonstrated empowering
leadership is positively associated with psychological ownership. Also, the research findings prove that
followers’ psychological ownership help develop empowering leadership impacts within their organizations
to boost job engagement and employee creativity. This study offers managerial implications to business
field regarding how to develop leadership capabilities and follower performance. In addition, the results of
this study present academic directions for future research area.
