The tale have two main events. A
story and days of wife going insane because of her husband's addiction
to gambling and a story of the husband stop gambling after finding his
wife suffering. There is a tiger between two stories. In the story, the
husband beat tiger and he stopped gambling. I was curious about the
meaning of the tiger in the story and I took a research. The results are
below.
First, tiger represents the wrath of the wife. Whenever she saw her
husband habitually leaves the house to go gambling, her wrath didn't
blew over easily. As a result, she started to throw every household items
and finally she even threw her mental. This means the destructive part
of anger took over her ego. While thinking of the reason for her mental
status, it was able to find the position of the wife in a 'vertical'
relationship and her efforts to protect the family from the
family-neglecting husband who is addicted to gambling. Addiction gets
worse as time passes. What the wife witnessed is the husband who don't
regret, have no introspect about his actions and the loss of fine family.
The wife realizes that her hope of keeping her family cant be achieved.
After that, she gets frustrated and to the last, the anger insider her bursts. The anger condensed insider her appeared with a figure of a
ferocious tiger. The wife fainted as right after the tiger died so this can
be a conclusive evidence of the relationship between the tiger and wife.
Second, the tiger itself is why the wife got mad and the opportunity
for the husband to regret and introspect. The naked wife in a pair of
shoes seems to be in unstable mental condition and a big tiger was
following her. At the urgent situation, the husband beat the tiger down
with one punch. The husband face the wife and the tiger on an empty
road. Then he realizes that the his bad, disastrous habit brought the tiger
and the tiger caused the anger inside the wife which made her to loose
her mental. The husband didn't evaded from the unexpected situation
and beat the tiger at a single stoke. The 'single stroke' that beat the
tiger means the husband needed to have an tremendous amount of energy
and he was able to handle the situation on his own. The situation he
handled was to quit gambling.
The relation between 'beating the tiger' and 'quit gambling' became
clearer after organizing the cause of the wife's wrath based on the tiger.
The unusual wrath of the wife caused the 'unusual' situation of the
appearance of tiger and this broke the everyday life. Through this
opportunity, the husband escaped from the treadwheel of gambling and
changed his habit of life. The story describes a short story of a husband
who realizes, witnesses, and handle the reality of his wife getting mad
and becoming a tiger because of his horrible attitude. This story is not
giving the only way of finding oneself's negative part and solve it. But
it sure is providing one way to solve the problem.
