This study shows the analysis on the newspaper editorials based upon the
reports to the mainstream media of Korea in regards to the election
superintendent near to the election date on 2nd of June, 2010. The titles and
contents of the newspaper editorials on the election superintendent are
analyzed, already published in public through four newspaper groups in
Korea; Chosun Ilbo, Dong-A Ilbo, Kyunghyang Newspapaer, Hankyoreh
Newspaper. Analysis periods are set in from January, 2010 to March, 2011.
The social network text analysis methods are conducted , which combining
social network analysis and the text analysis. The analysis on the frequency
and degree centrality of words used in the titles and contents on newspaper
editorials are provided. The network maps and a dendrogram between the
key words are suggested. Through this study, the key words with the high
frequency and high degree of centrality in the newspaper editorials on the
election superintendent are 'education', 'free meal at school', 'national teacher's
union', 'candidates' and 'progress'. It shows high interests and much concerns
of people on the election superintendent before the election and good
attentions on the superintendent selected by popular vote. However, the
political neutrality and the orientation to the educational policy were weak
during the election.
