본 연구는 한국의 연구중심대학 분류 방안을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 이루어졌 다. 이를 위하여 한국과 미국의 연구중심대학 분류 기준 및 방법을 비교하였고, 그 결과를 바탕으로 대학정보공시제 자료를 활용한 버텀업방식으로 국내 연구중심대 학 분류 방안을 제시하였다. 연구 결과 한국의 연구중심대학 분류 준거는 크게 연구중심대학의 규모 및 성과 의 2개 요인으로 구분될 수 있으며 규모요인에는 교수당 대학원생 수, 학부생 대비 대학원생 비율이, 성과요인에는 SCI급 논문실적, 교수당 SCI급 논문실적, 연구비 실 적, 교수당 연구비 실적, 박사학위 수여자 수가 포함되었다. 2개 요인을 기반으로 연구중심대학을 분류한 결과 17개 대학이 해당되었으며, 교육인적자원부의 2005년 연구결과와는 일부분 차이가 있었다.
The purpose of this study is to make classification method of research universities of Korea. For the purpose, the classification criteria and method of research universities of Korea and USA were compared. The classification criteria of research universities of Korea was separated to size of research universities and outcome of research universities. The size factor contained the size of graduate students per faculty and the ratio of graduate students to undergraduates. The outcome factor contained the size of research paper, the size of research paper per faculty, the size of research funding, the size of research funding per faculty, the size of doctorate. These seven indicators are divided into the STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields related indicator and the humanities & social science related indicator(total 14 indicators). The 17 Korean universities were classified to research universities based on two factors. The result of classification of this study made a some difference to the study result accomplished by the Ministry of Education at 1995.
