본 연구에서는 유아의 기질과 사회적 능력 간의 관계에서 지능이 매개효과를 지니는지 밝히 고자 한다. 연구대상은 전북 J시에 소재한 3개 유아교육기관에 재원 중인 유아 113명이다. 유 아의 기질을 측정하기 위하여 Buss와 Plomin(1984)의 EAS(Emotionality, Activity, Sociability), 유아 의 지능을 측정하기 위해 한국 웩슬러 지능검사 4판(K-WPPSI-IV), 유아의 사회적 능력을 측 정하기 위하여 LaFreniere와 Dumas(1996)의 사회적 능력을 평가하는 척도의 축소판(SCBE-30)을 사용하였다. 연구의 목적은 유아의 기질, 지능, 사회적 능력 간의 관계를 살펴보고 지능이 유 아의 기질과 사회적 능력 간의 관계를 매개하는지를 밝히는 것이다. 연구결과, 유아의 기질과 지능과의 관계에서는 활동성 기질과 사회성 기질이 지능과 정적상관이 있는 것으로 나타났 다. 유아의 기질과 사회적 능력 간에는 정서성 기질이 공격성과 정적상관을 보였으며, 활동성 기질과 사회성 기질은 친사회적 행동과는 정적상관을, 우울․고립과는 부적 상관을 나타냈다. 또한, 유아의 지능은 유아의 활동성 기질이 유아의 친사회적 행동과 우울․고립에 미치는 영 향에 대해 부분매개효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of intelligence on the relationship between temperament and social competence in preschoolers. The participants consisted of 113 preschoolers aged 4-6 years old. The following instruments were administered: EAS, K-WPPSI-IV, and SCBE-30. The data were analyzed using t-test, F-test, Pearson’s correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and Sobel test. The study aimed to determine the relationship between temperament, intelligence, and social competence in preschoolers and whether intelligence mediates the relationship between temperament and social competence at this age. Results showed that the activity and sociability of temperament were positively correlated with intelligence. Further, the emotionality of temperament was positively correlated with aggression. The activity and sociability of temperament were also positively correlated with prosocial behavior; however. they were negatively correlated with depression-isolation. Lastly, the effects of temperament based on activity on prosocial behavior and depression-isolation were partially mediated by intelligence.
