본 연구의 목적은 다문화가정 아동들의 학업적, 정서·행동적 특성에 대한 변화양상을 종단적으로 살펴보고 또래 아동들과 비교하여 변화추이에 차이가 있는지 확인하기 위함이었다. 이를 위해 한 국아동청소년패널자료 중 1~5학년까지 다문화 및 일반가정 아동들의 학습활동과 사회정서발달을 추적 관찰한 데이터를 선형혼합모델(linear mixed-effects model; LME)로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 다문 화가정 아동들의 학습활동 및 사회정서발달 평균 점수는 학년이 증가할수록 하락하는 경향을 보였 고, 또래 아동들에 비해 저학년부터 고학년에 이르기까지 모든 학년에 걸쳐 일관되게 학습활동과 사회정서발달 두 변인에서 낮은 평균을 보였다. 그러나 LME 분석결과 초기값과 학년 증가에 따른 기울기값에 있어서는 다문화 및 일반가정 아동 간 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 이 러한 결과에 따라 다문화가정 아동을 위한 교육적 지원 및 향후 과제 등이 논의되었다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate longitudinal trajectories of growth in academic and social-emotional aspects of culturally diverse students and to compare these trajectories with non-culturally diverse students' trajectories. For this purpose, Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey data in Grades 1-5 was used. A linear mixed-effects(LME) model was used to analyze the initial status and growth trajectories of 'school adaptation' and 'social-emotional development' of students with and without diverse backgrounds. Results showed that the mean scores on 'school adaptation' and 'social-emotional development' decreased gradually as students' grade increased. In addition, culturally diverse students showed lower means on 'school adaptation' and 'social-emotional development' than did non-culturally diverse students across all grades. However, LME model indicated that there was not a significant difference in the initial status and slope on the variables between the two groups. Implications for research and practices to help culturally diverse students perform better in schools were discussed.
