Focusing on the job duties of arts and culture education instructors, this paper studies competency development
details of educators and arts educators in Korea and overseas and suggests ways to develop their
job-based competencies.
This research first determines the job duties of arts and culture education instructors and then conducts
basic research on the competencies of arts and culture education instructors with reference to competencies
demanded by arts educators and planners in Korea and overseas. First, competencies of arts
and culture education instructors were grouped into the arts expertise competency group, class instruction
competency group, planning and research competency group, and general operations competency group
based on the job duties of arts and culture education instructors. Then within each competency group,
groups specific to knowledge, attitude, and functional competencies were determined and used to describe
the group competencies proposed using detailed behavioral indicators. Detailed classification of competencies
of arts and culture education instructors may contribute to the overall development and management
of human resources in the arts and culture education field. It may also contribute to the training curricula
and class management of arts and culture education instructors.
