The aim of this study is to examine how labor transition of
homeless women is proceeded, and to identify mechanisms that
cause them to be excluded from labor market. For this, five
homeless women who have lived in shelters, and have had labor
experience in the market were sampled and analyzed using generic
qualitative research methods after in-depth interview.
As a result of analysis, homeless women entered the labor market
with the aim of self-reliance. But homeless women with poor
human capital have been unemployed and employed repeatedly in
an secondary labor market. Especially, the psychological and
mental impairment of the female homeless had a negative effect on
their performance and relationship with their colleagues, thus
causing them to be excluded from jobs. So homeless women were
subjected to transit downward to work-poor labor market. Due to
low wages and unstable labor in the poor labor market, homeless
women couldn't escape from poverty.
In order to escape from homelessness, most of all, active labor
support services are required. and continuous counseling, case
management and linkage of mental health services are suggested.
Finally, it is suggested that the expansion of support facilities,
expansion of residence period, and stable housing support services
are necessary.
