미국 NSF에서 출연하여 개발된 지구과학 소양 개념 원리(Earth science literacy principles)를 구성하는 소양 부속 개념과 초등학교 과학교과서 관련 단원의 차시 학습목표의 관련성을 직접과 간접 관련성으로 구별하여 빈도를 조사하였다. 조사 결과로부터 도출된 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 지구과학 소양 원리에서 제시한 부속 개념들은 초등학교 과학교과서 학습목표 내용에 전체적으로 강한 관련을 보이고 있으나, 일부 개념인 ‘지구계의 상호작용’ 과 ‘계속 변화하는 지구’에 집중 되어 있어서 과학교과서 차시 학습목표는 전체적으로 균형 잡힌 지구과학적 소양 교육을 제공하기에 부족하다. 둘째, 초등학교에서 지구과학소양 교육을 위해서는 ‘지구변화 요인으로서 인간 활동’, ‘지구과학자 활동’, ‘자연재해와 인간의 위기’ 와 ‘물의 행성인 지구’에 관련된 소양 개념에 대하여 초등 과학교과 내용 보완이 필요하다. 셋째, 큰 개념을 구성하는 부속 개념 간 관련 빈도 의 차이와 지구과학 본질적 속성의 관계를 규명하여 교과 내용을 조정한다면, 비교적 균형 있는 지구과학 소양 교육이 이루어 질 것으로 판단된다.
Concurrence frequencies between earth science concepts in Earth Science Literacy Principles which were developed by NSF(National Science Fund) and lesson targets in the units related to earth science in the elementary science textbooks were analyzed in direct and indirect concurrence respectively. The conclusions are as follows. First, Composing concepts in earth science literacy are totally consisted with lesson learning targets related to geological domains. But ‘Interactions between Earth systems’ and ‘continually changing Earth’are dominantly related with lesson learning targets in the textbooks. Therefore, lesson learning targets in the elementary science textbooks are partially insufficient in the balanced teaching literacy of earth science. Second, a few big ideas, such as ‘earth scientists’ activities’,‘ natural disasters and human crises’ and ‘earth as water planet’, need some complements in contents of the elementary science textbooks. Third, the concurrence frequencies differences between composed concepts of big ideas and its’relationships with essential characteristics in earth science should be analyzed for forming desirable earth science literacy.
