This study conducted a descriptive investigation to examine the effects of servant leadership of nursing
unit managers perceived by nurses on the job performance of nurses at small and medium-sized hospitals.
The subjects include 214 nurses. In conclusion, the servant leadership of nursing unit managers at small
and medium-sized hospitals had influences on the job performance of nurses. Of the components of servant
leadership, teamwork turned out to have major influences on the job performance of nurses. Those findings
imply that nursing unit managers should exert servant leadership to strengthen teamwork rather than
instigating competition among the team members and lead them to make a contribution to the improved
accomplishments of nursing works and the fulfillment of organizational goals through mutual consideration
and cooperation. It is proposed that the findings should be used as basic data to set a direction for the
management of nursing human resources at small and medium-sized hospitals. and develop leadership
