이 연구의 목적은 신문기사를 활용한 기후변화 교육 프로그램이 초등학교 5학년생들의 과학에 대한 인식 및 태도에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 이 목적을 위해 먼저 미세먼지와 폭염과 관련한 국내 신문사 의 기사를 검색하였다. 관련 기사를 바탕으로 각 주제마다 원인, 현상, 영향, 대응의 4차시씩, 총 8차시의 기후 변화 교육 프로그램을 구성하였다. 또한, 이 프로그램을 S시에 소재한 K초등학교 5학년 학생 36명을 선정하여 투입하였다. 학생들에게 투입한 프로그램의 효과성을 평가한 결과, 과학에 대한 인식 및 태도 점수가 전체적으 로 증가하였다. 검사 하위 요소별 학생들의 답변을 분석한 결과, 과학에 대한 인식과 가치에서 긍정적인 변화 가 확인되었으며, 특히 과학의 유용성과 과학자의 필요성을 인지하는 계기가 되었다. 과학에 대한 태도 변화에 서 학생들이 처음으로 과학 법칙을 설명하는 경험을 했다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 볼 때, 이 연구에서 개발한 기후변화 교육 프로그램은 초등학생들의 과학에 대한 인식 및 태도 향상에 유용한 도구로 활용될 수 있다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of climate change education program using newspaper articles on scientific awareness and attitudes toward science of 5th graders. Domestic news articles about heat wave and fine dust were searched to develop a climate change education program and eight lessons of climate change education program were developed based on previous research-each consists of four lessons following the order of cause, phenomenon, influence and response. This program was applied to chosen thirty six 5th graders of K elementary school placed in S city. The effects of the program were analyzed and overall score of scientific awareness and attitudes toward science increased compare to pre-test scores. According to analysis on each sub-elements, the score of scientific awareness and value increased and participants recognized the usefulness of scientists. Participants’ score on attitudes toward science showed that they explained the law of nature for the first time. In conclusion, the climate change education program can supply chance for elementary school students to experience positive change in scientific awareness and attitudes toward science.
