본 연구는 국제결혼을 통해서 모국을 떠나 한국으로 이주한 여성들이 한국에 정착하는 과정에서 자신의 고유문화와 한국의 주류문화 간의 이질성을 조율하고 적응해 가는 과정에서 겪었던 문화접변 의 경험을 분석하여 그들의 문화접변의 유형과 차이의 근거를 밝히고, 국제결혼 여성들의 문화접변을 지원할 수 있는 정책지향을 제시하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해서 J. W. Berry가 범주화한 문 화접변 네 유형에 근거하여 연구참여자 6명에 대한 심층면담 내용을 분석한 결과에 의하면, 한국으로 이주한 국제결혼 여성들의 문화접변 유형은 통합과 분리의 유형에 한정되어 나타나고 있었으며, 동화 와 주변화의 유형은 나타나지 않았다. 이러한 분석결과는 이들이 한국사회로 이주한 이후에도 원래의 고유문화에 대한 문화적 정체성을 부정하거나 포기하지 않고 있었으며, 한국 주류문화의 수용 여부에 따라 통합과 분리의 유형으로 구분되고 있다는 것을 확인시켜주었다. 따라서 이들에 대한 지원정책은 일방적인 동화정책보다는 문화의 다양성을 인정하면서 이들 출신국의 문화와 한국문화를 양립·조화시 켜갈 수 있는 통합정책을 지향해 가야 할 것이다.
This paper aims to analyze the experience of acculturation of female immigrants who migrated by marriage to Korea in the process of coordinating and overcoming the heterogeneity between her own culture and Korean mainstream culture in the process of settling in Korea, to identify the types and differences of their acculturation, and to suggest policy orientations that can support their cultural adaptation. According to the results that analyzed in-depth interviews on six research participants based on J. W. Berry's categorized acculturation types, the types of acculturation of female immigrants by marriage appeared to be confined to the types of integration and separation. This result confirms that they have not denied or abandoned their native cultural identities even after they have been incorporated into Korean society. Therefore, the Korean government should pursue integration policy that can harmonize the culture of the native country and the Korean culture while recognizing the diversity of the culture rather than the unilateral assimilation policy.
