This study was evaluated the íIlustrated book “Sacchan’s Magic Hand (Sacchan no
mahou no te)" from two different points of view.
First, from the point of view of research in understanding handicap, we have concluded
the following results;
. This book contains useful and informative explanatory information on the process of
how the main character reached the level of accepting her handicap as told by her
parents.
- Children who might read this book can get a clear image and understanding of the
situation when they read and look at the illustrations that the main character has
no fingers on her right hand.
- This book contains a sensitivity in its explanations so that even children can begin
to understand the causes and the permanency of such a handicap .
- This book helps children imagine and think about what life must be like and will be
like for the main character.
Secondly, from points of view from nurses, we have concluded the following r es ults;
- This book contains a simplistic way to show the imagination of a situation of having
no fingers .
This book includes very simple explanations so that children can begin to
understand the causes of a handicap_
- This book include8 creative and well-thought descriptions so that children can relate
to a handicapped child and themselves_
- This book includes creative and well-thought explanations 80 that children can
begin to understand the permanency of a handicap.
