We interviewed 40 parents of children with developmental disorders, who were
studying in lower grades of elementary school, and shed light on the kmd of child-care
they expect from kindergartens and the way in which they would like child- care
providers to engage with children.
We found that the expedations of most of the parents having children with
developmental disorders from child -care providers were , (1) child-care providers
should be able to understand the characteristics of developmental disorders in detail
and handle the children accordingly, (2) inform parents about the things that could be
done at kindergarten in advance, and (3) coordination and tie-up with specialized
institutions such as counseling offices and medical institutions
1n future, we would like to study in detail about specific skills and knowledge that
child-care providers shou ld acquire in order to take care of children with development
disorders keeping in mind the expectations of parents
