In this study, cOJTlPonents of enjoyment that influence the level of enjoyment and QOL in the elderly who play Gateball were examined while considering gender differences. The results indicated that men who feel competent of playing in a team and being able to smile more often than usual tended to produce a high level of enjoyment. The results also suggested that men who feel capable of exercising more often tend to perceive their general health as higher than those who do not. In addition, men who think about the physical skills needed to play Gateball tended to have a higher perception of general health. Although some relationships between ∞ mponents of enjoyment and health-related QOL were found in men, no such relationships were found in women indicating that components of enjoyment differ between genders . Therefore, components regarding enjoyment among elderly women should be addressed in future research ‘ Also, since it was found that personal characteristics and lifestyle seem to have greater in f1uence than gender on enjoyment, investigating the correlation between enjoyment and personal characteristics and lifestyle is encouraged.
