The purpose of this study is to compare the differences in perceptions, needs, and dysfunctions on
assistant teacher system supported for the qualitative improvement of child care. This study conducted its
questionnaire survey on 695 subjects including directors, child care teachers, and assistant teachers in child
care centers located in all the regions of Jeollabuk-do(6 cities and 8 gun(s)) and 7 gu(s) in Seoul
city(Jongro-gu, Jung-gu, Yongsan-gu, Seongdong-gu, Gwangjin-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, and Seongbuk-gu). This study analyzed collected data using SPSS 23.0. This study performed frequency analysis to examine the
differences in respondents’ characteristics and necessities, executed factor analysis to test the validity on
‘the dysfunctions of assistant teacher recruitment’ developed by these authors, and conducted reliability
analysis to examine the internal consistency of measurement instruments. In addition, this study performed
one-way ANOVA to examine the differences in opinions about job needs and dysfunctions. According to
the results of this study, in differences in the necessity of assistant teachers, directors, child care teachers,
and assistant teachers responded with ‘very necessary’ in order according to positions. Moreover, in the
differences in job needs for assistant teachers, there were differences in job needs according to respondents’
characteristics by each sub-factor. Furthermore, in the differences in dysfunctions according to assistant
teacher recruitment, there were commonly dysfunctions according to position and age as sub-factors. These
results will contribute to recognizing jobs required of assistant teachers and dysfunctions according to
differences in the necessity of assistant teachers, and so complementing problems, and then providing data
for developing strategies for the qualitative improvement of child care.
