과학영재들의 성격유형은 일반학생들과 다른가? 라는 의문으로 시작된 본 연구는 과학영재고등학 교에 재학중인 학생들의 MBTI 성격유형을 조사 분석하였다. 본 연구에는 287명의 과학영재고등학생 들이 참여하였고, 이들의 성격특성이 다른 학생들과 어떻게 다른지를 알아보기 위해, 기존 연구들 중 547명의 일반고등학생 대상 연구와 931명의 미국영재학생 대상 MBTI 성격유형 연구와 비교 분석하 였다. 한국 과학영재들은 직관형과 사고형이 월등히 많았고, 기질적 측면에서 합리가형(NT형)에 높은 빈도를 보였다. 과학영재들의 성격유형은 일반고등학생들과는 여러 성격지표에서 차이가 있었지만, 미국의 영재학생들과는 다소 유사한 경향을 보이는 것을 알 수 있었다. 한국 과학영재들의 성격유형 연구는 이들에게 적절한 교육과정을 설정하고, 효과적인 교육환경을 구성하는 데 중요한 자료로 활용 될 수 있고, 학생들의 성격유형에 적절한 교수-학습방법을 제시하여 학교 현장에 적용 가능한 구체적 인 방안을 제공하고 있다.
The study begins with a question that scientifically gifted students’ personalities are different from regular students’ personalities and 287 scientifically gifted students are participated in this study to answer the question. The students took Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(MBTI) and the result are compared to the MBTI of 547 regular Korean high school students and 931 American gifted high school students in previous studies. The Korean gifted adolescents’show high preference to Intuition type and Thinking type, and to a rationals(NT) in temperament. Their MBTI types are similar to American gifted students, but different from Korean students in regular school. Personality types have been known to be associated with academic attitudes and aptitude, the results of this study are useful to develop a curriculum and learning-teaching environments to scientifically gifted students. Teaching practices for scientifically gifted students based on their personality preferences are also suggested.
