This paper investigated the contemporary significance of Community-based Art Education which actively spreads in Korea nowadays. To do this, Chapter 2 examined the academic research cases on the definition of the term Community and the current state of interaction between community and art. In particular, I considered the role of art in solving various problems of community and in engaging the collaborative efforts. And then, Chapter 3 proposed two theoretical grounds of community-based education: Social Reconstructionism and Critical Pedagogy. Subsequently, to looking through the educational meaning in activities of community-based education I articulated the way of changing each other and contributing to society by artist, community and art educator. Finally, I found the fact that the various practices of communication and dialogue between members of community established community-based education, then maintained the three common features between community-based education and community cultural development: collaborative network, democratic activity, and critical civic consciousness.
