This case study analyzed the changes caused by the free learning semester school in middle school
through Daegu Metropolitan City 's case. Through the research, We tried to suggest some things that the
free learning semester can be operated properly in the middle school field. In this study, we conducted
surveys and interviews with three groups (students, teachers, and parents) in Daegu Metropolitan City 's
free learning semester school. The study consisted of three parts. First, we surveyed and analyzed the
awareness and satisfaction of school members on the free learning semester. As a result of the study, the
school members had a correct understanding of the learning semester and showed high satisfaction. Second,
we surveyed and analyzed the status of the management free learning semester. Although the school members were satisfied with the curriculum and the free learning semester activities, there were various
opinions about the community infrastructure and evaluation methods. Third, we surveyed and analyzed the
changes in various aspects of school members due to the free learning semester. School members showed
positive responses in the affective domain and career domain, but negative responses in the learning
domains. Finally, based on the results obtained in this study, we explained implications of the free learning
semester for the national curriculum. And we suggested detailed plans for the activation of the free
learning semester.
