The purpose of present study was to examine whether awareness of imaginations and
decentering mediate the relations between self-compassion and psychological well-being
of adults who are visually impaired. For this purpose, the sample of 240 adults with visual
impairments in S city were asked to self-compassion scale, psychological well-being
scale, awareness of imagination scale, and experience questionnaire for decentering. The
results are as follows: First, self-compassion fo adults with visual impairments is related
with psychological well-being positively. There were both direct and indirect effects
between the two variables. Second, awareness of imaginations did not mediate the relation
between self-compassion and psychological well-being. Third, decentering partially
mediated the relation between self-compassion and psychological well-being. There were
both direct and indirect effects between the two variables positively. Fourth, when
self-compassion increased awareness of imaginations which in turn contributed to
decentering. psychological well-being was increased with positve effect. Therefore service
providers need to aware that psychological well-being of adults who are visually impaired
was increased whae improvement of self-compassion itself and/or mediation with
awareness of imaginations and decentering.
