This study aims at exploring how to manage basic curriculum for special education
based on the logic of curriculum at the point to emphasize competence-based
education. For this, the background of competence-based curriculum and educational
characteristics of the actual practice in the school were reviewed, and suggestions for
managing basic curriculum based on competence for students with cognitive disability
were explored.
The results are as follows: First, for students with cognitive disability, managing
basic curriculum should be considering the expanded competency category. Second, for
recognizing the actual status and responding the problems, intra- and
inter-convergence and integration among curriculum should be emphasized. Third,
teaching methods for large participation by students should be applied, and linked
education between inside and outside school should be made. Fourth, process-focused
educational evaluation for assessing performances with various methods should be
developed and conducted. Fifth, obligation of education should be strengthened by
building educational system for managing competences for disabled students.
And, the study suggested additional topics for future studies such as
re-conceptualization of competence for students with cognitive disability to be applied
with basic curriculum based on the results of this study. analysis of core competence,
and exploration of possibilities of competence-based education.
