The study addresses a reflection of teacher and criticism of observer in the political party class which
the teacher conducted with an elementary school students in Seoul. The teacher thinks that political
education is important for students to become the subject of politics. To do this, the teacher designed
and practiced a project class focusing on three activities: ‘Reviewing class rules, Enacting the Constitution,
Organizing a party’. Particularly, the teacher tried to identify students’ experience of political participation
and meaning of politics by teaching a political party which is not covered in current social studies
textbooks. This project class showed that the meaning of politics can be understood by experiencing
political life. And revealed that the participation in politics is an autonomous act involving awareness,
judgement, expression of opinions and consensus on public affairs. Teaching democracy in the classroom is
not different from experiencing democracy and participating in democracy directly in classroom. This
political class is the participation-based class that the teacher and students can acquire learn democracy
and realize the democracy of the lesson.
