본 연구는 자연물을 활용한 실외놀이 활동이 영아의 사회정서발달과 의사소통능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 S시에 소재한 2개 어린이집 만 2세반 영아 28명이다. 실험집단 영아 14명에게는 8주간동안 총 16회에 걸쳐 자연물을 활용한 실외놀이 활동이 이루어졌으며, 같은 기 간 동안 비교집단 영아 14명에게는 표준보육과정에 의한 실외놀이 활동이나 대체 실내놀이 활동이 실 행되었다. 영아의 사회정서 발달과 의사소통능력의 변화를 알아보기 위해 사전 사후 검사가 이루어졌 으며 수집된 자료는 독립표본 t 검증 하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 자연물을 활용한 실외놀이 활동은 영아 의 사회정서발달에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자연물을 활용한 실외놀이 활동 은 영아의 의사소통 능력에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 자연물을 활용한 실외 놀이 활동은 영아의 사회정서발달과 의사소통능력의 발달을 지원하는 효과적인 활동으로 활용될 수 있음을 시사한다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of outdoor plays with natural toys on toddler’s social/emotional development and communication abilities. Study subjects were 28 children of 2 years old at a child-care center in S City. This study was carried out in the procedure of preliminary survey, pre-test, experiment and post-test. Study findings are as follows: First, regarding the effect of outdoor plays with natural toys on toddler’s social/emotional development, the level of social/emotional development of toddlers in the experiment group was statistically and significantly higher than that of toddlers in the control group. Second, regarding the effect of outdoor plays with natural toys on toddler’'s communication abilities, the communication ability of toddlers in the experiment group was statistically and significantly higher than that of toddlers in the control group. Since outdoor plays with natural toys have significant positive effects on toddler’s social/emotional development and communication abilities, it will be actively used in early childhood educational institutions as an important activity for toddler’s development and learning which can be applicable to early childhood education.
