The purpose of this study was to investigate how perfectionism and presentation anxiety influence elementary
school students' adaptation of school life.
The survey data was collected from 606 elementary school students in Busan city, and analyzed using correlation
and multiple regression approach with SPSS 12.0.
The results of this study were as follows;
Fist, the sub domain of perfectionism of elementary school students have a positive correlation to the sub
domain of presentation anxiety, and all sub domain of perfectionism influenced the presentation anxiety
significantly.
Second, the result showed that there is a positive correlation between the perfectionism and the adaptation of
school life. Also, there are positive relationships between self-oriented perfectionism and all sub domain of
adaptation of school life, socio-oriented perfectionism and all areas of adaptation of school life except for school
instruction. All areas of sub domain of perfectionism influenced the adaptation of school life significantly.
Third, there was a negative relationship between presentation anxiety and the adaptation of school life.
Specifically, presentation anxiety was negatively related to friendship and school instruction domain of school life.
Also, presentation anxiety was negatively related to the adaptation of school life.
Finally, significant variables among sub domain of perfectionism and presentation anxiety was self-oriented
perfectionism and self-evaluation anxiety.
The conclusion from the above results as follows; In terms of elementary school students, socio-oriented perfectionism have a tendency to decrease the adaptation of
school life. However, students who have high self-oriented perfectionism have a tendency to adapt school life
well. Also, students who have presentation anxiety have a trouble to adapt to school life.
